Santa Clara was an agricultural economy until the semiconductor industry developed around 1960. At that point, the Valley of Heart's Delight became Silicon Valley, and little of its agricultural past remains. Santa Clara is located right in the center of Silicon Valley, and is home to several high-tech companies. It’s also home to Santa Clara University, the oldest institution of higher learning in the state of California. The NFL's San Francisco 49ers makes its home in Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.
Santa Clara's climate is rather distinct—generally warm and sunny—in contrast to the foggy and cool conditions in San Francisco. Most of the annual rainfall comes in the winter months and summer months are generally free of rain. Average temperatures in July range from 82 to 53 F. Winters are mild, with the mean daily temperatures in January ranging from 58 °F to 38 °F.
